BC Hydro is hoping to explore the possibility of building a substation by Raven Drive, around the Loggers Lane East area.

The Crown corporation has submitted an application to the provincial government for a licence that would allow investigations for the substation within a 1.69-hectare area.

It’s a move that hasn’t gone unnoticed by some in the nearby Ravenswood neighbourhood.

Some locals have circulated their concerns in a letter posted online.

Among other things, they are worried about the impact on area views, possible removal of vegetation, and impact on trails and recreation in the community.

“A substation of this size would have a negative impact on the enjoyment benefits of trail use and communal recreation sites,” reads the letter.

The letter also says the proposal didn’t take into consideration residential areas that were still under construction during the time this application was initially submitted.

This application is accepting comments at this site for the next four days. Commenting will close on April 24.

The provincial government is responsible for managing Crown land throughout B.C. and receives and processes between 5,000 and 7,000 applications for the use of Crown land each year, according to its website.
