Updated: BC Wildfire Service concludes wildfire sighting at Stawamus Chief area was false

The BC Wildfire Service is investigating a wildfire sighting at the Stawamus Chief area. Fire information officer Dorthe Jacobsen said that file is brand new, and confirmation of the blaze has yet to be made.

UPDATE: BC Wildfire Service has completed its investigation and determined there is no fire, as of about 2:45 p.m. June 30.

The BC Wildfire Service is investigating a wildfire sighting at the Stawamus Chief area.

Fire information officer Dorthe Jacobsen said that file is brand new, and confirmation of the blaze has yet to be made.

The sighting comes in the wake of blistering temperatures, which heightened fire risk.

As of today, the province has banned campfires.
