Bike incident probed

Weekly briefs from the Squamish RCMP

Two Squamish residents were arrested last week as part of an investigation into what appeared to be an attempt to sell a stolen bicycle.

On Wednesday (Sept. 25) at around 6:45 p.m., Squamish RCMP received a report of a man trying to sell a bike in front of the London Drugs store, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.

A vehicle description was provided and police located the vehicle in the 39000 block of Government Road. The two people police dealt with - a 56-year-old woman and 33-year-old man -"were well known to police and known to be involved in property crimes in the community" and were "not cooperative with police," he said.

The bike, a 21-speed black-and-red, full-suspension model, believed to be a Norco, appeared to have been altered. Although it did not come up on the police computer system as having been stolen, police seized it as part of their ongoing investigation, Pride said.

Woman arrested

A 42-year-old Squamish woman may be facing charges after she was found in possession of cocaine. The arrest occurred last Tuesday (Sept. 24) after an officer on patrol checked a suspicious vehicle parked in the 39000 block of Discovery Way. Two people were inside the vehicle and the woman, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for theft under $1,000, was found in possession of cocaine.

Jewelry goes missing

Last Wednesday (Sept. 25), police received a report of a theft from a home on Periwinkle Place in Lions Bay. Miscellaneous jewelry was missing, and the resident was unsure when the theft may have occurred as there was no sign of forced entry to the home, Pride said.

Items stolen

Items were stolen from vehicles in two separate incidents in the Squamish area during the past week.

Last Wednesday, police received a report of a vehicle being broken into while it was parked in the 6100 block of Garibaldi Park Road between Tuesday (Sept. 24) at 3 p.m. and Wednesday at 4 p.m. The rental vehicle had its driver's-side window smashed. Stolen were two suitcases full of personal belongings, Norwegian passports, an iPad 5, climbing gear, jewelry, personal identification and bank cards. The young Norwegian couple lost possessions with a total value of around $6,500.

On Monday (Sept. 28), police received a report of a theft of a vehicle parked at Inn on the Water in the 38000 block of Highway 99. The incident occurred sometime between Saturday (Sept. 26) and Monday at 6 p.m. A custom winch and lights were stolen from the front bumper of the targeted Jeep, with the stolen items valued at around $1,500.

Two arrested

On Monday (Sept. 28) at around midnight, police responded to a report of an assault at a home in the 41000 block of Government Road. At the scene, police received different versions of a confrontation from a 23-year-old woman and 24-year-old man, both alleging that the other had been the aggressor. Both had suffered minor injuries in the incident. Both were arrested, and the investigation is ongoing, Pride said.
