On May 27 at 6:30 p.m., an RCMP member observed a male on his 2006 BMW street motorcycle come to a stop at a stop sign and then fall over and dropped his motorcycle.
The 39-year-old driver then drove off down Queensway Avenue. The male was stopped and showed signs of impairment by alcohol and registered a "fail" on the roadside screening device. The male was brought back to the detachment and two breath tests registered well over the legal limit.
He was released on a promise to appear and will attend court on July 22 to answer to an impaired driving charge.
Witness spots robbery in progress
On May 27 at 1:58 a.m,. police were advised that a male had placed a wooden pallet against the wall of the Husky service station and was pulling off the video cameras. The male wearing a blue hoodie and jeans was gone on attendance and patrols failed to locate the suspect. The matter is still under investigation.
Arson at McDonald's
On May 27 at 3:10 p.m., Squamish Fire Rescue and RCMP members attended to a fire at McDonald's Restaurant on Cleveland Avenue. A plastic soap dispenser in the female washroom had been set on fire. The fire alarm went off and staff smelled something burning and had called 911 quickly, the fire was contained and quickly extinguished by the Fire Rescue. The matter is still under investigation.
Smash and Grab at Mountain Woman
On May 27, the owner of the Mountain Woman Restaurant in Britannia Beach reported that the restaurant had been entered overnight and suspect(s) stole rolled coins of approximately $30 value. They used a rock to smash a lock on the front door causing approximately $100 in damage.
Smash no grab at Kal Tire
On May 27 at 5:15 a.m., police responded to an intrusion alarm at Kal Tire on Industrial Way. The front door glass had been smashed out to gain entry to the business. A property representative attended, and it did not appear that anything had been stolen.
