On Monday (Jan. 4) at 4:19 a.m., police were called by an alert citizen to report a vehicle had backed through the front doors of the local Boston Pizza Store and a male was seen loading articles into the vehicle.
The witness provided police with the vehicle's description and direction of travel.
"As a result of the information received from this helpful citizen, police intercepted the vehicle near by on Highway 99 at Commercial Drive," stated an RCMP news release.
An attempt was made to stop the vehicle there but the suspects fled further south on Highway 99, damaging a police vehicle in their escape. The vehicle and suspects were finally intercepted and arrested at Finch Drive and Highway 99 by other units responding.
As a result a 31-year-old male and a 38-year-old female from the Lower Mainland were taken into custody without further incident.
Investigation has found that the vehicle they were driving was stolen from the New Westminster area and contained stolen property from the Boston Pizza as well as break and enter tools.
The two suspects remain in custody for further investigation and are expected to face numerous charges including break, enter and theft, possession of stolen property and possession of break-in instruments and failing to stop for police, when they appear in court later this year.
"Police would like to thank the alert citizen for contacting us in a timely fashion, which resulted in the arrest of these individuals and the recovery of a stolen vehicle and other stolen goods," stated the news release.
"This proves that the public are the eyes and ears of their own community that assist police in keeping us all safe and sound; without their help and support our job becomes a lot tougher."
