COVID-19 cases are rising quickly as B.C. also sees a surge.

Caseloads across B.C. continue to skyrocket and Burnaby is an example, but not in a good way.

According to the latest Geographical Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence, Burnaby recorded 54 new cases from July 25 to 31, 2021.

The latest numbers are 40 more cases compared to the previous reporting period from July 18 to 24 when there were only 14 new infections diagnosed.

The data is released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

For the second straight week, Burnaby also has a higher caseload than Surrey, who saw just one less case with 53.

Yesterday (Aug. 4), health officials announced 342 new cases that had been discovered in the 24 hours prior and the highest single-day total since May 27 when 378 cases were noted.

In other Burnaby data, the latest COVID-19 Surveillance Dashboard for July 27 to August 2, 2021, shows none of Burnaby's four quadrants hold a 0% positivity rate.

Burnaby northwest is the highest of the four areas, coming in at 3% while Burnaby northeast and southeast both have risen to 2%.
