Police are seeking the public's help in their investigation of a series of break-ins that occurred this week at businesses along Garibaldi Way.

Early on Monday (July 25), Squamish RCMP officers attended after receiving reports of alarms being triggered at several businesses in the 1900 block of Garibaldi Way, in Garibaldi Estates, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said in a statement. Entry was gained by breaking windows, Pride said.

A suspicious male was reported to have been seen in the area, dressed in black and wearing a large, black backpack, and possibly associated with a grey or silver minivan. Patrols of the area failed to locate a suspect or similar vehicle.

Weapons seized; charges pending

A 61-year-old Squamish resident is facing a number of charges after police responded to a report of a male threatening to shoot people on the evening of Sunday (July 24) in the Squamish Valley Road area.

Pride said police responding to a report of a dispute arrested the man after arriving at the scene. The suspect faces a charge of uttering threats and "a number of weapons-related offences," he said. A number of firearms were seized at the scene.

Man faces charges after altercation

A 25-year-old Squamish man is facing charges of uttering threats and assault after an incident that occurred on Saturday (July 23) at the Cat Lake recreation area. Police responded to a report of a fight involving a number of males, one of whom was armed with an axe. An axe was seized by police at the scene, but was not used in the assault, Pride said. One male was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Weapon, other items seized

During a routine traffic stop on Sunday shortly after 1 a.m., Squamish RCMP arrested a 17-year-old Squamish resident on a charge of possession of a prohibited weapon. Police seized brass knuckles and drug paraphernalia at the scene.

Motorcyclists injured

Squamish RCMP attended two crashes involving motorcycles along Highway 99 on Sunday. One, near Porteau Cove, involved only a motorcycle, while the other involved a motorcycle colliding into the back of a truck.

In both cases, injuries sustained were non-life-threatening. However, Squamish RCMP reminded drivers to watch their speeds and stay aware of traffic conditions and potential distractions.
