The string of business break-ins continued this week with incidents occurring at two sites in town.
Just after midnight on Tuesday morning (May 11), police received an alarm at the Howe Sound Woman Business Center on Cleveland Avenue. The front door had its lock pried and entry was gained. Suspect(s) stole a lap top computer.
And on Friday (May 7) at 7:34 a.m., an employee reported that suspect(s) broke into BC Hydro building on Production Way overnight. A front window was smashed and suspect(s) entered and stole a lap top computer, valued at $1,000 and damaged the building at an estimated $500 value. Both matters are still under investigation.
Impaired drivers charged
On Saturday (May 8) at 11:03 p.m., an RCMP member on patrol intercepted a vehicle on Highway 99 near Valley Drive with a radar reading of 45 kilometres over the speed limit. The 34-year-old male driver was found to have been drinking and failed a roadside screening for alcohol. He was returned to the detachment were breath readings nearly three times the legal limit were obtained. He was issued with a promise to appear and released from custody to appear in court and answer to an impaired driving charge.
Also on Saturday (May 8) at 1:50 a.m., an RCMP member observed a green Ford Explorer leaving the Highlands Mall. The vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and drove away at a high rate of speed. The 34-year-old male driver was stopped and displayed symptoms of impairment, registering fail on a roadside screening test. He was returned to the detachment where breath tests were provided showing a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit. The male was released on a promise to appear to attend Provincial Court and answer to a charge of impaired driving.
