Businesses damaged in break-in attempts

Weekly briefs from the Squamish RCMP
Squamish RCMP were busy with break-ins last week.

Two downtown businesses were damaged in separate break-in attempts during the past week.

On Wednesday (April 30), police received a report that a business in the 1400 block of Winnipeg Street had been accessed through a roof vent, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.

Nothing was stolen in the incident as the suspect or suspects appear to have been scared away by the business’s alarm. When it sounded at around 3 a.m., police attended but found nothing suspicious at the time, Pride said.

On Friday (May 2), police received a report of an attempted break and enter at a business in the 38000 block of Cleveland Avenue. Someone had smashed a glass door at the front of the business, but failed to gain entry.

Cards, cash stolen

On Thursday (May 1), police received a report of a vehicle having been broken into overnight while parked in the 39000 block of Government Road. The vehicle was rummaged through. Stolen were personal ID, bank cards and $200 in cash. The vehicle may have been left unlocked, Pride said.

Man arrested

On Tuesday (April 29) at around midnight, police responded to a report of an assault at a home in the 1200 block of Depot Road in Brackendale.

The 28-year-old suspect was reported to have assaulted his 29-year-old girlfriend during an argument. The male had fled the scene but returned in his vehicle while police were still present. He was arrested for assault and impaired driving.

Items stolen from boat

On Thursday (May 1), police received a report that a boat had been broken into while moored at the Squamish Yacht Club sometime during the previous five weeks.

A lock was cut to gain access to the galley and the interior was rummaged through. Stolen were a first aid kit, a Swiss army knife, a pair of Bushnell binoculars, a Garmin GPS and a Mag Lite flashlight.

Block Watch event set

Residents of the Garibaldi Estates area are invited to an event next week that is being organized by the RCMP Community Policing Office and the Garibaldi Block Watch group.

Next Wednesday (May 14) at 6:30 p.m., residents are urged to drop by Pat Goode Park at 40420 Cheakamus Way to meet Squamish RCMP, bylaw, B.C. Wildlife, Crime Stoppers, District of Squamish and Squamish Fire Rescue Services officials and ask questions about how the various agencies are working in the area.

Dogs are welcome — on leash, that is.
