Campers locked out

BC Parks has decided to tighten up operation dates at 45 provincial campgrounds, leaving campers with shorter seasons to enjoy the outdoors.

Porpoise Bay and Roberts Creek provincial parks are two of the affected campgrounds - both on the Sunshine Coast.

Instead of the usual April 15 to Oct. 15 camping season, Porpoise Bay Provincial Park will lose a month in the fall and close on Sept. 15.

Roberts Creek Provincial Park is opening a month later this year on June 15 and will close as usual on Sept. 15.

The Ministry of Environment runs BC Parks and budget constraints were the reason given for the changes. Bookings for the campgrounds are done through a contractor that can be located at www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks.
