Don’t expect postal service today, Squamish.
Rotating Canada Post strikes throughout the country have now hit town.
As of 8 a.m. today, the postal workers in Squamish have walked off the job.
“Mail and parcels will not be delivered or picked up in the impacted areas while the union continues their strike activity,” reads a news release from the Crown corporation. “Canada Post continues to operate across the rest of Canada.”
The announcement didn’t say when workers in Squamish will be back at work. Requests for comment directed to Canada Post were not immediately returned.
Generally speaking, strikes have lasted at least 24 hours in each community where workers have taken job action.
The other B.C. communities that have started rotating strikes today are Maple Ridge, Surrey and Chilliwack.
Elsewhere in the last 24 hours, rotating strikes have started in Peterborough, Ont., at 8 a.m.; Lloydminster, Sask., at 6 a.m.; Pickering, Ont., at 4 a.m.; Oshawa, Ont., at 6 a.m.; Thunder Bay, Ont., at 1 a.m.; and in Brandon, Man., at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29 and in Winnipeg, at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28 (local times).
A strike also continues in ÎIes-de-la-Madeleine, Que.
Meanwhile, employees in Vancouver, Sudbury and Niagara Falls, Ont. returned to work following CUPW’s strike activity in those locations.
