No one was injured but a car was destroyed in a single-vehicle accident that closed the Sea to Sky Highway Saturday afternoon.

A rented Lamborghini lost control near the “Big Orange Bridge” at Culliton Creek in the southbound lane roughly midway between Squamish and Whistler and caught fire.

The accident happened sometime shortly before 4 p.m. and closed down the highway. RCMP did not confirm the length of time but some reports suggest it was approximately an hour.

The single occupant in the vehicle was unharmed, but RCMP confirmed that the car, a rental, was a write-off. The police said the weather obviously played a factor in the accident.

The LP560-4 was a rental from Scenic Rush, a company that rents high-performance vehicles for drives along the Sea to Sky Highway. The company did confirm this by email Sunday afternoon and also posted a message on Facebook.

A video posted on Instagram shows the vehicle in flames. A witness can be overheard talking about how the car had been driving erratically.

The police have closed the file and do not plan to lay criminal or Motor Vehicle Act charges.
