The plan to bring car sharing to Squamish is hitting the road.
Starting Aug. 1, two Modo cars will be stationed in town for members to use. The two vehicles; a RAV4 and a Prius V, will be stationed at the Chieftain Centre and outside Municipal Hall.
Members pay a small registration fee to the car-sharing co-op, which enables them to book shared vehicles through an app or by phone and pay a small hourly fee for each use.
Users will need to pick up and return the vehicle from its spot.
Both vehicles have ski and bike racks.
Funding for the two cars came from a developer cash contribution from the Waterfront Landing Phase 1. The District of Squamish is now a business member of Modo and staff will have the option to use the vehicles for short trips.
Modo also operates in the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and the Okanagan.
