Cardinal supports Centrepoint

Squamish company donates $50K to SSCS hub project

Cardinal Concrete has joined Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) in its efforts to build a downtown community services hub by making a $50,000 donation to the project.

SSCS officials announced the donation to the Centrepoint project in a statement that was embargoed until today (Thursday, Feb. 13).

Centrepoint, an $8.3 million project to be built at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Victoria Street, is a partnership with Squamish United Church. It is to include community rooms, a preschool, programming rooms for a wide range of social services, a floor of affordable housing and office spaces. Squamish United Church, which owns the land, is fundraising separately for a new church.

"At Cardinal Concrete, we know how important a strong foundation is. We believe Centrepoint creates a strong foundation for the community," said Bob Fast, founder and owner of Cardinal Concrete. "We're happy to be involved in a project that will help so many people, for such a long time."

"We're very thankful for this wonderful donation from Cardinal Concrete, which helps us to help others," says Lois Wynne, executive director, Sea to Sky Community Services.

"This donation really starts the year off right," said Owen Carney, co-chair of the Centrepoint fundraising team. "Twenty-fourteen is a big year for the campaign; this support strengthens our confidence we'll have a successful year. This great show of generosity is what we've come to expect from a company and a man, Bob Fast, who have been strong community supporters for decades."

The donation brings the total amount raised for the project so far to $1.15 million, with a capital campaign target of $3 million. For more information, visit www.sscs.ca
