Authorities on Tuesday (Oct. 22) confirmed that a bobcat attacked two off-leash dogs on a trail near Garibaldi Highlands, prompting them to issue an updated wildlife alert.
The two attacks occurred Tuesday morning at the south end of Jack's Trail, which extends from Garibaldi Highlands northward toward Alice Lake Provincial Park, District of Squamish and B.C. Conservation Officer Service officials said in a statement. Earlier in the day, officials had issued an alert after an unconfirmed report of an attack by a cougar in the same area.
It has been confirmed by the Conservation Officer Service that there have been two separate attacks on dogs this morning, said the updated alert, issued at 2:20 p.m.
The dogs were both attacked by a bobcat (not a cougar) on the south end of Jack's Trail as the trail heads north into Alice Lake Provincial Park. Both dogs were unleashed at the time of the attacks and both dogs are unharmed.
