Celebrate Earth Day

It's the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and local environmental groups are organizing a party to celebrate in style.

It's the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and local environmental groups are organizing a party to celebrate in style.

Whereas past local celebrations were held at the Oceanfront lands, this year's party takes place at the O'Siem Pavilion Park in order to attract a wider array of participants, according to organizers.

Starting at 10 a.m. Saturday (April 24), the park will be overrun by musicians, Banghra dancers, belly dancers, school choirs, Squamish Arts Council art shows and demonstrations, children's craft tables, a barbecue and a farmer's market. At 11 a.m., organizers host the event's opening ceremonies followed by a variety of entertainment for kids and adults.

Information displays will help educate locals on environmentalist initiatives in the area.

Before the day's events wrap up at 4 p.m., be sure to pick up one of the free trees being handed out and help Mother Nature add to her arsenal by planting one more natural CO2 eliminating, oxygen-producing machine.
