Celebrate the Ashlu River and buy the t-shirt

Community

Squamish Whitewater Paddlers are inviting one and all to celebrate "one of the finest whitewater streams found anywhere," the Ashlu River, and buy a t-shirt in donation toward river conservation projects.

With its amazing granite canyons, great views and spectacular whitewater, paddlers are eager to showcase the stream while raising money for the Whitewater Kayak Association of B.C.'s (WKABC) River Projects Fund.

"We were motivated by the threat of a power project on the river," states the festival website. "And by tactics of the developers, both of which provided plenty of impetus to raise awareness about the threat, and about the value of the stream."

From Aug. 18 to 21, events will draw paddlers and non-paddlers alike with barbecues, a canyon walk and a "sort of informal" competition. Funds will be raised through the sale of t-shirts, a variety of paddling clinics, draw prizes and silent auctions.
