The Community Foundation of Squamish (CFOS) is seeking the public's input in the preparation of a community "report card" that is to serve as a tool for improving the community's health and well-being.

Citizens are invited to a meeting next Tuesday (May 17) from 7 to 9 p.m. at Howe Sound Secondary School to provide input for the early stages in the preparation of the Vital Signs report, which CFOS officials said are "a periodic check-up that measures the quality of life in communities, identifies trends, and shares opportunities for action."

Each year, organizations like CFOS compile such reports in 15 to 25 communities through a program organized by the Community Foundations of Canada. The Vital Signs report is to be a snapshot of the community's strengths and shortcomings, compiled through a wide range of research and input from the community, officials said in a media information sheet.

"Community foundations are well-suited to this kind of work because of the broad role we play in our communities," the statement said. "Community foundations work with a wide range of community groups -not just one charity or sector. This gives us a comprehensive view of local issues and the ability to make connections between various needs and issues."

Squamish's Vital Signs report will be published on Oct. 4 as part of a nationally coordinated launch event. Admission to Tuesday's meeting is free.
