Chance of a white Christmas

Santa Claus may experience slight delays due to snowy weather

If your presents aren't under the tree exactly on time this year, there's no need to panic — Santa hasn't forgotten you.

It's just that he may be experiencing a little bit of a delay getting to your house due to weather conditions.

Environment Canada has issued a weather alert that there's a 60 per cent chance of snow flurries on Christmas Eve, followed by a 40 per cent chance of flurries on Christmas Day.

Sources at Santa's workshop in the North Pole tell The Chief that while his crew is used to operating in blizzard conditions, Santa does stop for a little bit longer for milk and cookies when he hits Squamish, as the boys and girls there tend to be a bit more generous with leaving out midnight snacks.

This is especially true when the white stuff starts coming down.

"It can be hard for Santa to go back outside when it starts snowing and these children have left so much for him to eat," said one elf, who can't be named because he was not authorized to talk on the matter. "But it's necessary. Everyone needs a break, right?"
