Charges recommended for bullying

On Sept. 4 at 10:10 p.m., parents of a 14-year-old youth called police to say their child and a 13-year-old friend were walking on Tantalus Road when they were approached by a group of eight similarly aged youths. The victim had his skateboard taken and was then forced to pay money to get it back. Investigation led to the arrest of one youth who was taken home to parents, and two other youths are being investigated for criminal harassment. The three suspect teens, aged 13 and 14 years old, will be investigated and charges will be recommended to Crown Counsel. This type of action and offence is nothing short of bullying and intimidation.

Pot discovered on school zone speeder

On Sept. 4 at 10:20 a.m. a member working enforcement in a school zone on Government Road stopped a red Chevrolet pick up truck for speeding. The driver was identified as a vehicle impound candidate and his vehicle was seized. A search of the vehicle subsequent to the impounding revealed a large quantity of marijuana in bags, which was seized and led to the arrest of the 50-year-old male driver. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days, the driver was charged with the original offence for speeding and was released on a promise to appear for Nov. 25 to answer to a charge of possession of a controlled substances.

Dine and dasher charged

On Sept. 3 at 9:56 p.m. an employee of the White Spot Restaurant called to advise a male left without paying for his meal and drinks. Patrols located a male suspect on Second Avenue near Pemberton Avenue, the 35-year-old male resident of Alberta was detained and charged and released on a promise to appear on a charge of obtaining food by fraud.

Vehicle broken into

On Sept. 4 at 6:15 p.m., a complainant reports that while out rock climbing, suspect(s) broke into a vehicle parked across from the Adventure Center and stole a backpack with various items, including sunglasses, a tent, camping gear, binoculars, clothing and a Swiss army knife. The estimated value of stolen goods is $2,300.

Outboard motor stolen

On Sept. 3 at 1:17 p.m., a complainant called to report the theft of an outboard motor from a boat parked at a residence on Kingswood Road. A black 15 HP Mercury Bigfoot motor valued at $3,500 and bearing serial number 1B525130 was stolen.

Forestry investigates rave

Conservation officers, in conjunction with Ministry of Forest compliance and enforcement staff, have initiated an investigation into the illegal use of a recreation site for the purposes of holding a rave. Charges under various acts are pending the outcome of the investigation.

COS issue fines

Conservation officers conducted Patrols of the Mamquam, Cheakamus, and Squamish Rivers this week. Several warnings were issued for various angling offences.

On Sept. 5, conservation officers conducted proactive compliance patrols of the upper Squamish Valley and Whistler area. Violation tickets under the Liquor Control Act, Forest Range Practices Act, and Fisheries Act were issued to three males from the Vancouver area.
