Notice anything different about your newspaper this week? The Chief, Squamish's award-winning newspaper, has launched a new design to provide you with a cleaner, easier-to-read version of Squamish's most complete package of local news, views, entertainment and sports."The Chief has won multiple awards at the provincial and national level for general excellence, in large part because of its eye-catching, organized and attractive design," said publisher Tim Shoults. "But it's important the paper adapt with the times. We think this new look does that while maintaining our core strengths."The new design is by Shelley Ackerman, an award-winning graphic artist who also created Squamish's new daily newspaper, Squamish Today, as well as the Whistler Question, Sunshine Coast Reporter and Gulf Islands Driftwood. The Chief's iconic logo has been changed only slightly, with a scripted "The" to update the look, which first debuted in 2001. The paper's core editorial structure, which transitions through local news to opinions to community news, entertainment and sports, has also stayed the same. But the rest of The Chief's typography has been updated, for a cleaner, more modern look with better use of white space. New and revamped features debuting with our redesign include: AROUND TOWN, our new events feature on page 2 in partnership with mysquamish.com, with Squamish's best and most complete listing of community events in the week to come and beyond. TAKE A BREAK has been retooled and expanded to include new puzzles for children including Kids Cross and Monkey Sudoku, with a weekly prize for puzzle-solvers, along with weekend comics to complement the Monday-to-Friday comics available to readers in Squamish Today. Now you can keep up with the antics of Dilbert, Archie, One Big Happy, Get Fuzzy and Baby Blues in your community newspaper, along with a new TV section with complete coverage Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to midnight and weekend TV from 4 p.m. to midnight. THIS WEEK IN HISTORY moves to its own space in the Our Town section, with expanded historical coverage in partnership with the Squamish Historical Society. The Chief welcomes your feedback and suggestions on our new look.
