The Chief this week earned five national awards given to newspapers for excellence in journalism, sales and promotions.
Squamish’s community newspaper earned three awards in the Canadian Community Newspapers Association (CCNA) awards announced on Monday (March 31). Reporter/photographer Rebecca Aldous earned a first-place nod in the Best News Feature Photo category for newspapers with circulations up to 3,999 for her photo titled, “Under the Sea” that appeared on the front page of the July 25, 2013, edition of The Chief. The Chief also received a first place for Best Website in its circulation category and a second place in Best Coverage of the Arts (circ. up to 9,999) for its coverage of the 2013 Squamish Valley Music Festival.
In the national Great Idea Awards also announced on Monday, The Chief earned second place in the Community Newspaper (circ. up to 3,999) category for its Kaos Kids ad campaign, and second in the Special Section (circ. up to 3,999) category for its Christmas Gift Guide.
