Chief names General Manager

Squamish's award-winning community newspaper has a familiar face in a new position. Laila Michell will be The Chief's first-ever general manager, with overall responsibility for day-to-day administration of the newspaper.

Laila Michell will be The Chief's first-ever general manager, with overall responsibility for day-to-day administration of the newspaper.

Michell, an 18-year resident of Squamish, first started with The Chief as an accountant in 1999. She became supervisor of The Chief's regional accounting division, with responsibility for The Chief and its sister papers in Lillooet, Whistler, Powell River and the Sunshine Coast, in 2000.

In 2006, Michell joined The Chief's sales department as an advertising representative.

"We are very pleased that Laila has taken on this new role with us," said publisher Tim Shoults. "Laila's administrative skills and her experience with community newspapers will serve The Chief and the community well."

Shoults will continue in his role as publisher of The Chief with overall responsibility for the newspaper and its operations and as group publisher for The Chief, the Whistler Question and Squamish Today/Whistler Today, the Sea to Sky corridor's new free daily newspapers.

The Chief is a division of Glacier Ventures, a B.C.-based, publicly-traded company (TSX symbol: GVC) with more than 100 weekly and daily community newspapers, business and agricultural publications across Western Canada and in Quebec.Recently The Chief was named best all-round newspaper in Canada in its circulation category by the Canadian Community Newspapers Association (CCNA).
