Christmas Day 2019 set to be a mixed bag of weather goodies in Squamish

Christmas 2019 is set to see a mix of weather systems in Squamish.

Environment Canada says on Dec. 25 to expect a cloudy day with a 40% chance of flurries or rain showers this morning.

It will clear this afternoon. Expect a high of 3C.

Tonight should be clear, becoming partly cloudy again before tomorrow morning. Bundle up after dark as the temperature will dip to a low of -4C.

According to Environment Canada, the average high on Christmas Day in Squamish is 3C.

The average low is -1.7C.

Historically, the highest temperature reached in Squamish on Christmas Day between1982 through 2018,  which is the period Environment Canada publishes records for, was 13C in 2005.

The coldest Christmas on record was -10.5C in 2008.

In terms of snow on the ground, 2008 was also a banner year in Squamish when 32cm fell and stuck.

For Boxing Day, it will be cloudy in the morning, with a 60% chance of snow or rain late in the afternoon. It is expected to reach a high of 2C.

By Thursday night, expect periods of snow or rain and a low of -1.
