Climbing gear stolen

Squamish RCMP are seeking the public's help in the theft of a laptop computer, several backpacks containing climbing gear and a passport from a vehicle parked in the Stawamus Chief parking lot this week.

Victims of the incident, reported to police on Monday (July 2), were climbers from California, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said in a statement. Among the stolen items was a Dell Studio 14 laptop computer.

Bikes stolen

Two high-end mountain bikes were stolen in separate incidents during the past week.

On Friday (June 29), police received a report of the theft of a white Santa Cruz Blurr 27-speed bike, valued at $4,000, from a business in the 38000 block of Bowen Avenue. A fence surrounding the property had been cut through, as had a lock securing the bike.

On Sunday (July 1), a black and green Pivot Phoenix mountain bike, valued at $6,000, was reported as having been stolen overnight from the Mountain Retreat Hotel in the 38000 block of Progress Way. The bike had a custom Boxxer RC2 fork and Fox RC4 rear shocks.

Suspects nabbed

Three men were arrested after police interrupted a burglary in progress on Tuesday (July 3) at a business in the 37000 block of Galbraith Road. At around 10 a.m., police responding to a report of suspicious activity arrested the three, including one after a failed attempt to escape. The Squamish men, aged 22 and 46, and the Surrey man, 25, are facing charges of break and enter and possession of break-in instruments, Pride said. All were described as "well known to police."

Police are investigating two separate thefts of items from vehicles last Thursday (June 28). The first involved a vehicle parked in front of a home in the 2000 block of Diamond Road that had a rear window smashed between midnight and 7:30 a.m. Stolen from the vehicle were a black Apple iPod and a TomTom GPS unit.

Between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., another vehicle was broken into near the intersection of Garibaldi Way and Mamquam Road. Another GPS was stolen, along with some spare change.

Man arrested

On Saturday (June 30) at 9:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a fight in progress at Hotel Squamish on Second Avenue. A 34-year-old Delta woman told police that during an argument with her spouse, he had struck her. A 42-year-old man was arrested nearby and faces a charge of assault.

Computers stolen

On Monday (July 2), police responded to a report of an overnight break-in and theft at a home in the 38000 block of Harbour View Place. Access had been gained via an unlocked sliding glass door. Two MacBook laptop computers were stolen.
