Close-knit Lil'Wat First Nation rocked by crash that killed two Saturday

A 29-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man are dead after a crash in Mount Currie, Stl'atl'imx Tribal Police have announced.

A news release from STPS Chief Deborah Doss-Cody says the pair died at the scene.

A 30-year-old-woman and 26-year-old man are in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a 32-year-old woman, did not suffer serious injuries.

Those in the vehicle were all local to the area.

The single-vehicle crash happened on XitOlacw Road in Mount Currie at about 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the news release states.

The vehicle flipped over into a ditch.

At the families’ request, Stl'atl'imx Tribal Police will not be providing more information about those in the vehicle.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

"The Lil'Wat First Nation is a close-knit community. The tragic incident has taken a toll on the heart and spirit of all Lil'Wat people and other members of the Stl'atl'imx Nation," said Doss-Cody in the release.

An investigation into the crash was carried out this weekend by the Stl'atl'imx Tribal Police, the Lower Mainland District Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Service (ICARS), Pemberton RCMP and the BC Coroners Service.  The investigation by the Stl'atl'imx Tribal Police will continue, according to the release.
