The Canadian Coast Guard has refloated a partially sunken barge that was carrying fuel containers in Howe Sound.
“The barge will be towed under escort to Port Moody tonight for assessment and necessary repairs,” the organization wrote on Twitter last night.
Authorities were alerted the barge was about to sink near Sunset Beach — between Lions Bay and Horseshoe Bay — in West Vancouver on July 18.
Crews surrounded the boat with a boom and began salvage work.
It’s unclear how much fuel may have been leaked.
Requests for comment sent to the Ministry of Environment were redirected to the Canadian Coast Guard.
The Canadian Coast Guard did not immediately respond to The Chief’s inquiries.
