Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, Air 1 search for swimmer missing near Lions Bay

There is a multi-agency search underway near Lions Bay for a missing swimmer.

On July 21,  at about 5 p.m., Squamish RCMP received a call about a man who went missing while swimming in the ocean off a dock in Lions Bay.

He went underwater and did not surface.

Upon receiving the call, Squamish RCMP worked with the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Center, RCMP Air 1, Lions Bay Fire Rescue, Canadian Coast Guard with divers, and Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue to search for the man.

The search was paused overnight, but has resumed today.

The RCMP Dive Team will be on hand to assist further with the search.

“We are working with the community and our partners, using all the resources we have available to bring this man back to his family,” said Cpl. Angela Kermer of the Squamish RCMP in a news release.
