Come sip with SEP

The continuing efforts of Squamish Emergency Program (SEP) volunteers will be honoured at a fundraiser on Tuesday (July 10) at The Burrow in the Garibaldi Highlands.

Organizers hope to not only raise money, but educate the public on the important job SEP has in the Sea to Sky Corridor.

"They do an incredible service for Squamish but there's not a lot of money generated for equipment for them, and they can always use more resources," said organizer Amie Taylor.

"I am involved because I believe in what they do, they're invaluable to us. The idea around the fundraiser is to also raise awareness for what they do and what they supply as a service to all of us around here. If there is a flood, we depend on them. If there is any kind of devastating event, they're there. It's not just rescuing people off the Chief - they're invaluable."

The fundraiser will begin at 7 p.m. with Cruelty Free Cartoons - an on site character drawing service.

Appetizers and door prizes are included with the ticket price, and special "SEP-tinis" have been added to the martini list, with a percentage of each drink sold going to the cause.

The evening will include a slide show presentation from SEP volunteers Jim Martinello, Todd Lawson and Andreas Taylor, and live music will be provided by Perry Beckham and friends.

A silent auction will run from 7 to10 p.m., featuring a long list of valuable biding items such as a Whistler/Blackcomb Edge Card, a Bodyvine Yoga and Pilates one month unlimited pass, Arc'Teryx packs, an Omega Helicopter ride, jackets from Valhalla Pure, climbing gear from Climb On, an avalanche course from Pacific Alpine Institute, clothing from Lotus wear, On-Sight Equipment gear, and more.

"Volunteering my time to put the event together is nothing compared to the time and skills volunteered, and often unknown to the public, by our SEP members whenever called upon," continued Taylor.

"They all deserve recognition and a big thank you and without the support we've received fromall the local businesses there would be no event. They have all been so generous with their time and resources."

Tickets are available at Valhalla Pure Outfitters and The Burrow. No tickets will be sold at the door.
