Community Foundation announces new funding for local projects

Community

The Squamish Foundation is calling for applications from non-profit organizations in Squamish for the LEAD grants program. "The LEAD grants program provides grants over and above the SCF grants our Foundation awards in the fall," said SCF grants committee chair Grace Halvorson. The LEAD Grants Program is made possible by a generous partnership with the Vancouver Foundation, who divides $400,000 among community foundations throughout B.C., based on the size of the populations they serve. Launched in 2000, the Leadership, Engagement and Development (LEAD) Grants Program provides funding to non-profit groups whose innovative projects pool the talents and skills of residents, to address local needs. By encouraging community members to work together, this program builds partnerships, promotes civic involvement and fosters community self-sufficiency. The Squamish Community Foundation, founded in 2003, is a charitable organization that serves the community of Squamish. It currently manages funds donated by local residents, businesses, government and other charities and directs investment earnings to projects that help improve the quality of community life.Grants between $500 and $2,500 will be awarded to local groups with ideas for projects that build on existing strengths within the community. An information and skill-building seminar focusing on community assets and interests will be held in May, with the view to submitting LEAD grant applications. Interested organizations please contact scfgrants@shaw.ca or 604-815-5076 by May 3. Application deadline is June 6 and projects must be completed by Sept. 23, 2005.
