Squamish's Adventure Centre is bringing the Olympics closer to home. From Feb. 10 to the 24, the Adventure Centre will provide a live feed of the 2006 Winter Olympics held in Torino, Italy. The broadcast will allow enthusiasts to watch their favourite events.

"We need some sort of excitement to bring the community together," said Denise Imbeau, manager of Squamish's Chamber of Commerce.

"All day, any day, people are welcome to come in and watch the Olympics unfold."

Imbeau said she would like the Adventure Centre, which will incorporate an Italian theme, to be the hub of Olympic activities in Squamish.

She said the excitement generated from the Olympic broadcast would lead up to the Wild at Art celebrations. Imbeau believes a big event will be the Canadian Men's Hockey preliminary game against Finland on Feb. 19 at 3 p.m.Although many locals' sentiment is that Squamish will miss out on the 2010 Olympics, Imbeau said she is determined to continue to generate excitement around the event.

"We aren't Vancouver or Whistler but we are still Canadian and we still stand to benefit," she said.

A long-time Squamish resident, Imbeau said she is pleased to be managing Squamish's Chamber of Commerce.

"I'm loving it, it's a perfect fit," she said. "There are so many opportunities like this, to improve the community. I have a real passion for this town."
