Police are seeking the public's help in solving the latest in a series of break-ins and theft of copper wire from facilities in Squamish.
The most recent incident occurred last Wednesday (Nov. 2), when Squamish RCMP received a report of a burglary at B.C. Hydro's Cheekye substation on Squamish Valley Road near Brackendale, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said in a statement.
Several holes were cut in a chain-link fence surrounding the facility and approximately 75 feet of copper wire was stolen. Copper wire was also among the items stolen in a recent break-in and theft at the Power House Springs power plant.
"Such thefts are an ongoing and increasing problem in the Squamish area," Pride said.
Police are asking anyone with information about this or other incidents to phone Squamish RCMP at (604) 892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
