Green For Life has been awarded a curbside collection contract of $1.35 million per year, plus GST, for five years.
This is a slight increase from the current price per year, which is $1.32 million.
Save for Coun. Doug Race, council voted on March 24 unanimously in favour of the contract. Race recused himself, as the GFL manager for the Sea to Sky, Denise Imbeau, has served as his campaign manager.
A staff report says The pricing provided by GFL has a 2-5% increase in the different services, such as general collection, organics transportation and pickup, and tote exchanges.
There are changes to the new contract.
This includes new vehicles and the possible trial testing of better totes, among other things.
Residents will only be able to get 35- and 65-gallon garbage and compost totes due to problems with wildlife breaking open 95-gallons.
However, 95-gallons will be available for recycling materials.
In January, GFL was selected to handle operations and maintenance of Squamish’s landfill for a price of about $9.3 million over five years.
