Squamish is considering making changes to its criteria for which development permits get priority.

Currently, the District has criteria outlining which developments get priority. If the development has one or more of those attributes, it has a chance at becoming a priority project on the queue.

During their Sept.10 meeting, councillors asked staff to explore the possibility of adding 100 per cent market rental developments and maximum step code requirements as priority characteristics.

That means if a development is 100 per cent market rental or is considered as energy efficient as possible according to B.C. standards, it could become a priority project.

Presumably, this could mean a faster application processing time.

Previously, the required percentage for market rental was 50 per cent and a lower energy efficiency standard was acceptable for a development to be considered as a priority.
