Some Squamish residents are rallying behind a couple whose house burned down earlier this week.
A crowdfunding page on GoFundMe has appeared and so far has raised $2,200 in the last 21 hours, as of Thursday morning.
“I just watched Mike and Melissande's house burn down last night at 2am with them just getting out alive,” writes the page’s author, who goes by the username Ashling Love.
“They are lucky they are both in 1 piece. Gypsy their dog is ok too.”
“They are going to need to rebuild their life,” Love continues. “Melissande did not even get 1 pair of socks out of the house for herself. They lost everything.”
One person was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit in Vancouver General Hospital after a fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday morning, roughly around 2 a.m.
The blaze engulfed a house within minutes, and grew large enough to scorch an entire side of a neighbouring home.
In addition to the couple living in the house where the fire started, two families and an individual tenant living in the adjacent house have also been displaced by the fire.
Emergency social services are working with those affected to provide temporary relief.
