The union representing some 150 municipal employees has reached a new four-year collective agreement with the District of Squamish (DOS) that includes annual pay increases of 1.25 to 2 per cent.
Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) 2269 and the DOS council have voted in favour of ratifying the agreement, CUPE officials said in a statement issued on Friday (May 3).
After a difficult round of negotiations we are glad to have reached a fair and reasonable agreement for our members, CUPE 2269 president Wayne Chadwick said in the statement. CUPE 2269 members are proud of the quality public services we provide our community and we look forward to continuing to provide them in the future.
The four-year deal is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2012, so it expires on Dec. 31, 2015. It includes a 1.25 per cent wage increase in the first year, a 1.75 per cent hike in Years 2 and 3 and a 2 per cent increase in the final year. It also includes improvements in bereavement leave and other benefits, CUPE officials said.
CUPE 2269 represents 150 DOS employees who provide snow removal, water and wastewater services, animal and bylaw control, recreation services, landscaping and maintenance in parks, services at the RCMP detachment and at municipal hall.
