One of the world's most influential environmentalists, Dr. David Suzuki, will be coming to Squamish next year as part of the 2009 Recreation Facilities Association of B.C. Conference.
Suzuki, an award-winning biologist who has pioneered efforts in sustainable ecology, is the keynote speaker for the 2009 Recreation Facilities Association of B.C. Conference, which Squamish will host from May 19 to 22. His May 22 presentation will be on the state of our environment, according to a District of Squamish news release.
Suzuki's presentation will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre Arena and a limited number of tickets are available to the public to purchase for $35. Tickets are now available and can be purchased at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre or the Squamish Adventure Centre.
The Recreation Facilities Association of British Columbia (RFABC) promotes general interest, education, safe operating standards, professionalism and support among recreation facility operators, Commission and Board members in the operations of arenas, auditoriums, community centres, swimming pools, stadiums, parks and other recreation facilities.
"A gifted interpreter of science and nature, Suzuki provides audiences with a compelling look at the state of our environment, underscoring both the successes we have achieved in the battle for environmental sustainability, and the strides we still have to make if Earth will remain a welcoming home for all nature's creatures," states the release. "Both inspiring and realistic, he offers leading-edge insights into sustainable development and model for a world in which humanity can live well and still protect our environment."
