Paul Joseph Wucherer, the man charged in connection with the death of Manfred Stewart, was sentenced last month to three years and two months in jail - but will be out in eight months.

Wucherer was found guilty of manslaughter in a jury trial in Vancouver Supreme Court in November. He was originally charged with first-degree murder.

The 15 months Wucherer spent in jail following his arrest shortly after the incident will count as 30 months towards his total sentence of 38 months.

Along with the jail term, Wucherer is prohibited from possessing firearms for 10 years, he must pay a victim surcharge of $100 and he has to surrender a DNA sample.

Stewart was killed in Dentville in September of 2002. According to the RCMP, there was an altercation between the two men at a rented home on Newport Road. Police reported that the victim was beaten with a stick.
