Squamish Business Park may soon have an addition.
On Tuesday (Oct. 25), the District of Squamish council approved a development permit for two buildings, containing 12 units in total, at 39279 Queens Way. The permit was issued with two provisions - that the developers provide bonding for $17,343.60 worth of landscaping and that the development signs on to the district's standard boulevard maintenance agreement.
Five Point Developments, the property owner, hasn't given the district a firm start date, said Chris Bishop, acting manager of planning and building. But the proponent has expressed interest to get building soon, he said, noting the project still requires a building permit.
A few new buildings have been popping up around town, Mayor Greg Gardner told The Chief. There is the four-storey medical building downtown, the Solterra development on Discovery Way and the new building at Commercial Place.
"We are very pleased that there are commercial developments moving forward in this economic climate," Gardner said.
The Five Point Development proposal drafts for two buildings housing six tenants each. The units include bay doors and the corner sections of the building will be glazed, Bishop said.
"The uses would be determined by the tenants," he told council.
Anticipated businesses range from warehousing to general light industrial. The proposal indicates the two buildings would be oriented towards the east and west facing inwards to the north and south.
