The District of Squamish is on the hunt for a new building sheriff.
The municipality's building inspector resigned from his position on Oct. 26, leaving the position empty, stated a report to council from the district's building department. The hole, combined with other vacancies in the department, left the district with no inspection capacity, the report said.
It has been an ongoing challenge for the district to fill the building department's positions, Mayor Greg Gardner told council on Tuesday (Nov. 1).
A building inspector reviews building permit applications, issues building, occupancy, demolition and sign permits and generally administers the B.C. Building Code.
The district has posted ads for the position and is on the hunt for suitable candidates. In the interim, municipal staff has contracted Richard Diamond, Building Officials' Association of B.C. Level II certified inspector, to take over the title of Licence Inspector, which will enable him to inspect buildings and issue business licenses.
