The District of Squamish has a new person behind its microphone.
The municipality hired Christina Moore as its communications manager. A resident of Squamish for nine years, Moore spent the past 16 years working as a communications practitioner, primarily in Whistler.
At the helm of Whistler Blackcomb's public relations team, Moore played key roles in the launch of the Peak 2 Peak Gondola and during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Moore was director of communications at the resort's annual World Ski and Snowboard Festival. Recently, Moore managed a public relations consultancy, Red Door Communications. She also instructs marketing at Capilano University's Squamish campus.
Moore's understanding of the Sea to Sky Corridor's dynamics, tourism and recreation industries and issues facing the community will benefit her in the municipal role, Mayor Rob Kirkham said in a statement.
Moore will be responsible for providing the district with strategic communications advice to council on its directives, managing communications and consultation projects and acting as a liaison with media.
"I'm passionate about this community as it's where I've chosen to live and raise my family, and I'm very much looking forward to telling the incredible stories that are plentiful her," Moore said. "I believe there is a lot of great work that goes unrecognized, and I hope to be able to provide a voice to some of that."
