The District of Squamish has launched a new website to promote Squamish as a place to do business and support existing companies.

The new website is part of the existing Squamish.ca site, but will function as a “portal” to make business information accessible. Users can easily access commercial property listings, for example, or access local statistics about the labour market.

“The new site features practical information on permitting, taxes, grants and incentives, all in an easy-to-digest format, while also providing tools and resources to help local businesses research ideas, the local market, hire talent, innovate, grow and prosper,” said District of Squamish Economic Development Officer Kate Mulligan in a statement.

“We’re looking forward to receiving feedback from local businesses on the site’s value and how we can continuously improve our information, tools and resources,” she said.

Creating the web portal was a recommendation from the District of Squamish Economic Development Strategy and Action Plan created in 2016.

Mulligan was hired in February 2017.

The role of the EDO is to promote economic development by “attracting new investment, supporting and assisting existing businesses, and enhancing the Squamish business climate.”

The site is also full of familiar faces from around town – all the photography features local businesses and their staff.

The website includes interactive web tools developed by technology firm Localintel.

For example, business owners looking at the page can choose from a long list of industries to automatically be presented with visual data pulled from Statistics Canada.

The website can be found at squamish.ca/economic-development.
