District of Squamish Launch Survey on Commuter Bus Service to Metro Vancouver

Squamish, BC - The District of Squamish along with AECOM Canada Ltd are conducting a Commuter Bus Service survey on the potential of additional Squamish to Metro Vancouver commuter bus trips during weekday peak periods.

Squamish, BC - The District of Squamish along with AECOM Canada Ltd are conducting a Commuter Bus Service survey on the potential of additional Squamish to Metro Vancouver commuter bus trips during weekday peak periods. This survey together with the 2008 District commuter survey will shape the development of the planned bus service. Residents are encouraged to fill out the survey and return it by May 23, 2009.

"Looking into a commuter service to Vancouver is responding to the needs of our community and follows up on recommendations made in our five-year transit business plan," said Mayor Greg Gardner.

The survey is designed to investigate the feasibility, costs and ridership of a potential new peak period (5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) commuter bus service operating between the District and locations in Metro Vancouver.

This bus service would offer additional trips to compliment the existing Greyhound Bus service, which operates between North Squamish and downtown Squamish and Metro Vancouver.

Potentially the commuter bus service could stop at Park Royal in West Vancouver and Hotel Vancouver in downtown. Additional stops could possibly include Lions Bay, Horseshoe Bay-BC Ferries, Lonsdale Quay, and the VIA Rail station or additional locations. This service would be subject to obtaining the required funding.

To help understand our community's travel needs and planning for this service, your assistance in completing and submitting the following survey by May 23, 2009 is appreciated.

The survey can be completed online at www.squamish.ca, or picked up and filled out Municipal Hall, or returned to:
