They have reached a deal.
The District of Squamish announced ratification of a new collective agreement with CUPE Local 2269, the union that represents district staff, on Thursday morning.
The four-year deal sees district staff earning wage increases of 1.5 per cent this year and next, two per cent in 2018 and two per cent in 2019.
On April 22, the parties reached a tentative agreement that will impact the district’s approximately 266 employees and ratified the agreement in separate processes, according to a district press release.
“By receiving a record amount of completed surveys back, our members gave us clear direction on issues that were important to them,” said CUPE 2269 president Wendy Shard in the release. “We feel that the agreement negotiated with the District of Squamish is fair to both parties and the community; this was reflected by the support our members gave during the ratification process.”
Mayor Patricia Heintzman said council was pleased with the deal that satisfied both sides.
“Our dedicated and talented employees are at the core of the services we deliver to the community,” she said.
The deal is retroactive to Jan. 1 of this year and expires Dec. 31, 2019.
