At the halfway mark in the municipality's fiscal year, most of the District of Squamish's departments are well above the red line.
Special projects, maintenance and contracted services are running below budget in most areas, including water and sewer projects. That is to be expected, the district's chief financial officer Joanne Greenlees told council at Committee of the Whole on Sept. 10. The 2013 Financial Plan Variance Report included figures up to June 30.
"Generally, most budgets were underspent at the halfway of year - underspent if we would think things were evenly proportioned," she said.
District officials faced a few unanticipated bills. Emergency sinkhole repairs in the Brackendale dike will be covered by savings or deferrals of other capital projects, noted the financial report. The district also dished out money for a hot water tank at one of its facilities.
This summer, the district's major project update and financial report didn't align on their cutoff dates, chief administrative officer Corien Speaker told council. To add clarity to the municipality's progress - economically and in regard to projects - district staff will the next set of reports are ready at the same time, she said.
