DOS staff and council earnings released for 2015

Close to $12.5 million paid to district staff
The District of Squamish's staff earnings have been released.

It’s nice work if you can get it. 

The annual municipal Statement of Financial Information (SOFI) was recently released, which shows District of Squamish staff as well as mayor and council earnings for 2015. 

Remuneration for district employees totalled $12,484,592 in 2015, up from $11,902,029 in 2014. It includes salary, overtime and vacation payouts. 

The two top district earners were once again women, with Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Linda Glenday earning $157,999 in 2015 and former general manager of financial services Joanne Greenlees, who reportedly retired from the district in February, bringing in $157,286. Robin Arthurs, general manager of corporate services earned $144,540. Rounding out the top five earners with the district were firefighter Sean Sweeney at $150,074, and Gary Buxton, general manager of development services and public works at $132,457. 

Former CAO Corien Becker, who left suddenly in July of 2015, is listed as earning  $116,461 for the year.

Mayor and council salaries and expenses are also totalled in the report. Squamish’s elected officials took in $250,029 in total remuneration for 2015; and $31,898 in expenses.

Mayor Patricia Heintzman earned $67,127 and $10,436 in expenses. Expenses include travel, training and conferences.

Except for Councillor Doug Race, councillors earned $30,355 in 2015. Race took in $31,127. Expenses for councillors broke down as $6,252 for Susan Chapelle; $4,791 for Ted Prior; $3,527 for Jason Blackman-Wulff; $3,061 for Karen Elliott; $1,969 for Race and $1,862 for Peter Kent.

Municipalities must release yearly financial statements in accordance with the province’s Financial Information Act.
