The association charged with pumping life into downtown Squamish has a new captain.
On Monday, Sept. 29, Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association (BIA) officials announced long-time Squamish resident Bianca Peters is taking the helm. In mid-October, Peters will step into the role of executive director, replacing outgoing director Christine Campbell.
“I look forward to working with the board and membership to support downtown businesses and support existing programming while attracting more economic opportunities and visitors downtown,” Peters stated in a press release.
Peters has lived and worked in Squamish for 16 years. She is the president of the Squamish Historical Society and is the owner of the public relations company BP Communications. Peters is one of the masterminds behind the Squamish Culture and Heritage Festival.
Campbell is departing from the position to return to school and concentrate on her book-keeping business. She worked with the Downtown Squamish BIA for the past five years.
“I love this community and you will definitely see me around town volunteering at events like the Test of Metal,” Campbell said.
The association was formed eight years ago with a mandate to stimulate and promote the downtown as a vibrant hub. This year the BIA was kept busy helping to facilitate eight community events over the summertime, including On the Street, Canada Day and Squamish Wind Festival.
Every year the Squamish BIA initiates a Passport to Shop and Win program, which encourages local to shop downtown over Christmas by entering them in a raffle.
