Bus riders, take note — the Downtown transit exchange will be relocated from the Chieftain Centre to the Squamish Public Library on June 1.

BC Transit issued a news release on May 26 saying that all trips will now start and end at the library on Second Avenue.

Riders boarding the bus at the Chieftain Centre on Pemberton Avenue may be required to disembark at the library in order to get on the correct route, the release continues.

This change is being made to enable the construction of a separated bike path along Pemberton Avenue.

There will, however, still be a bus stop at the Chieftain Centre.

Fare collection and front-door boarding will resume on June 15.

The Route 5 South Parks bus won’t be operational in mid-June, as it has been in other years, due to reduced usage from COVID-19. Authorities are still deciding what will happen to Route 5 for the remainder of the summer.

The route began as a pilot project in the summer of 2018 and continued in 2019,  with financial support from the Sea to Sky Gondola.
