The organizers of last weekend's B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive declared this week the initiative a success both locally and provincially.

Over the past couple of weeks, more than 4,000 volunteers fanned out in communities around the province, visiting 153,960 addresses in 30 communities. They collected an estimated 247,605 pounds of food and the total value of all financial and material support exceeded $672,852, organizers said in a statement issued on Wednesday (Sept. 20).

The food drive collection drive that took place on Saturday (Sept. 17) in Squamish involved 41 volunteers spending more than 324 hours and visiting 3,175 homes, bringing in 6,450 pounds of food for the Squamish Food Bank, organizers said.

The B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive was sponsored province-wide by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and Food Banks British Columbia, and is supported by more than 20 local and regional community partners, organizers said.
