Drunk driver gets high-centred

On Tuesday, June 9 at 5 p.m., members received several calls from citizens about a vehicle being driven in an erratic fashion. The 1992 white Chevy Cavalier was located high-centered on a median at the Highlands Shopping Mall. The 29-year-old male driver showed signs of impairment, however, a smell of liquor on his breath was absent. A drug recognition expert was called in and the male was tested at the detachment. The male was determined to be impaired by drugs and was released on a promise to appear to answer to a charge of impaired driving by drug.

Guard spots broken window

On Monday (June 15) at 1:20 a.m., members responded to a call from a security guard advising of a broken window at Howe Sound Secondary School. A glass panel on a side door was broken and it appears that a $50 fire extinguisher was stolen. Damage to building is estimated at $200. The school was searched by police dog services and the door was secured for the night. The matter is still under investigation.

Bike stolen

On Tuesday, June 9 at 5:10 p.m., a citizen flagged down an RCMP member to reported that a bicycle was stolen from a construction site at Amblepath between noon and 4 p.m. The bike was unlocked a described as being a silver Team Murrin with front suspension valued at $2,000. The matter is still under investigation.

Angry drunk arrested

On Friday (June 12) at 12:56 a.m., an RCMP member on patrol stopped a 2005 Dodge pick-up truck for speeding and failing to dim high beam headlights on Highway 99. The 34-year-old driver was checked and showed signs of impairment. The driver failed a roadside screening tests and was escorted to the police vehicle for transport to the detachment for breath testing. The male became combative and pulled away at the police vehicle in attempts to return to his vehicle and drive. The member and an auxiliary constable were able to control the drive and his passengers until other units arrived, at which time the driver was arrested and returned to the detachment were he refused to supply samples of his breath as required by law. The male was held overnight and released when sober on a promise to appear for Aug. 5 to face charges of impaired driving, refusing to supply breath sample and resist arrest.

Well-known dealers busted

On Wednesday, June 10 at 8:21 p.m., RCMP members on patrol of downtown, near Victoria and Third Avenue, observed drug activity between two well-known local males. Both males were detained and an investigation recovered stolen credit cards, chequebooks, cheques and forged cheques, along with a quantity of Crystal Meth and drug paraphernalia. Both males were arrested and released on promise to appear for charges of possession of stolen goods and possession of controlled substance on July 22.

Cyclist hits car

On Friday (June 12) at 11:35 a.m., a 52 year-old male cyclist was injured and transported to Squamish Hospital by B.C. Ambulance. The cyclist was cycling down Ring Creek Road nearing the Mashiter Creek Bridge and collided with a 2008 Chevy Equinox, which was backing out of a business. The cyclist clipped the right rear corner of the vehicle and was ejected from his bike, fracturing his helmet when he landed. The male was treated at hospital and released.

Drunk speeder crashes

On Thursday, June 13 at 9:30 a.m., RCMP members attended to a collision on Highway 99 north of the Culliton Creek Bridge. Witnesses report that the 2001 red Lexus was travelling southbound a very high rate of speed and lost control crossing both northbound lanes and striking the ditch and rockface. The 20-year-old male driver failed a roadside screening for alcohol and was issued with a 24-hour driving prohibition and a violation ticket.

Drug user charged

On Saturday (June 13) at 10:20 p.m., RCMP members stopped a 2008 Ford Ranger pick-up at a roadblock on Government Road and Squamish Valley Road. The 33-year-old male driver showed symptoms of impairment and admitted to using marijuana. Sobriety tests indicated his impairment by drugs and he was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition, and a search of the vehicle located a quantity of marijuana and psilocybin. The male was issued a promise to appear for a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Vehicle broken into

On Sunday (June 14) a vehicle owner reports that overnight suspect(s) broke into her vehicle and storage locker in the underground parking area of her complex at Wing Tip Place. A Kona mountain bike valued at $2,000 was stolen along with a camera and MP 3 Player valued at $350.
